Fire Safety Week Ideas for kids

It's Fire Safety Week!

Teaching fire safety is very important.

Here are a few things we've done.

This bath was fun!

 

Using a squirt bottle to put out the flames... this is also great for

fine motor and little hand muscles!

Apple Theme Ideas

Apple theme ideas!

First we cut a tree top out of green paper and used her finger to paint little apples. :)

 

 

Great tip for apple prints - cut a notch in the apple to make

it easier for tiny tots to hold onto!

 

Don't forget to show them the star in the center.(pic below.)

(Apple must be cut horizontally to show the star.)

 

Handprint apples! Paint only the palm red, add stem and leaf with

finger prints!

Beach Discovery Bottle

 

Before our trip to the beach, I wanted to teach her a bit about it first.

We did several different activities to learn about the beach.

This is a beach discovery bottle made from a smart water bottle.

Inside is sand, mini shells, oil (baby oil would be best because it is clear - but we were out), blue water & glitter. Then I super glued the lid on and put stickers on the outside. :) super easy and

she loved it!

Melting Ice with colored Salt

This one was fun. I froze a water bottle,

then cut the bottle off and gave her salt that I had dyed.

(All you do is mix a few drops of food color into the salt and let dry.)

Toddler Fireworks

Thursday is Independence Day! K is so excited to see the fireworks,

so we decided to make some of our own.

 

I drew fireworks on black paper, and she added the glitter.

I watered down some white glue, then she used a lollipop stick

and colored with the glue on the paper, then decorated with glitter.

Next I gave her a straw. She blew threw the straw at the glue, then

spread it around more with the end of the straw. Then she sprinkled it with glitter.

Finally we painted her hands with the watered down white glue, then stamped her

hands on the paper. I added a little more glue and she sprinkled the glitter. (We really like LOVE glitter!)

My 15 year old liked the hand print fireworks so much, she made one of her own!

Baking Soda & Vinegar Ice experiment

We did a little baking soda & vinegar experimenting today.

 

To start off, I mixed some red food dye with vinegar and filled

one side of our ice tray. Then, I mixed a little water & blue food dye with baking soda,

and spooned it into the other side.

Freeze overnight.

I put some baking soda on a plate, and she added a vinegar cube.

 We let it sit & melt, but nothing happened.

Then she dropped a baking soda cube in a small bowl of vinegar.

This one worked. It fizzed up & dissolved the cube.

Our last try was to put one cube of each in a small bowl to

see if there would be a reaction as they melted. Nothing happened.

We ended up pouring a little vinegar in and that caused the typical reaction.

 

Even though not all of these worked, they

were still Lots of fun.

Homemade Bubble recipe and how to make Bubble snakes

Bubbles: 3 cups water, 6 TBS light karo syrup, 3/4 cup dish soap. Mix & play

 

How to Make a bubble snake:

 Cut the bottom off of a water bottle. Cover the end with a sock or terry cloth. (I used a baby washcloth.) Fasten with a rubberband. Dip into bubble mixture & blow!!

You can also add a few drops of food coloring to the solution or on the cloth to make rainbow snakes!

St. Patrick's Day Bath

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Here's our theme bath for St. Patrick's day.

I dyed the water green, painted a rainbow and pot of gold on the wall,

and added a cloud with shaving cream.

Then I added some window decals, green bead necklaces and foam shamrocks

from Dollar tree. I also made shaving cream rainbow paint, using just food color and shaving cream!

 

Puff Paint - only 2 ingredients!

Puffy paint.

Equal parts Elmer's glue & shaving cream, and a few drops of food color.

When it dries it puffy and foamy feeling. :)
